Dental Veneers
Transform your smile with natural-looking perfection.
Dental Veneers Explained
In select cases, the process for dental veneers may be completed in a shorter timeframe compared to orthodontic treatment. Dental veneers can last up to ten years or more with proper care and maintenance.
“In select cases, dental veneers can be a great way of achieving your dream smile without undergoing prolonged orthodontic or smile makeover treatments. There is a caveat – you must have good gum and teeth health before proceeding with treatment. Additionally, your teeth must not have severe or complex overcrowding and you must have a good stable and balanced bite. If you have active caries or poor oral hygiene, doing dental veneers can exacerbate your oral health problems.”

Dental Veneers at Elite Dental
At Elite Dental Group, we focus on providing treatments with an emphasis on patient safety. Our dental veneers process has been tweaked to
| 1st Visit – Consultation, Examination and Treatment Plan Discussion | During your initial consultation, we will first discuss your treatment goals with you. A clinical assessment is also done to ensure that you are suitable for Invisalign. Following the assessment, photos, molds or intra-oral scans and X-rays of your teeth will be taken to design your treatment plan.Following discussion of your concerns and goals, your dentist will advise you if dental veneers are suitable during the initial consultation. |
| 2nd Visit – Digital Smile Design (DSD) | Your dentist will create a smile design or prototype smile mockup to allow you to preview the ideal smile. Standardized facial photos, smile photos and intraoral scans will be used to create your smile design digitally. Your dentist will answer any questions you may have about whether veneers alone are suitable or if you require a combination of treatments to achieve your aesthetic goals.Using sophisticated dental smile design software and AI, your dentist will work closely with the lab technician to design a smile tailored to your features. The final treatment plan can only be confirmed once you have seen and approved the smile design mockup. This is to ensure that you are fully aware of the smile design and how your smile would look at the end of treatment, to ensure that expectations are met as fully as possible and to avoid disappointment. Changes can be made to the proposed design at this stage which will be mirrored in the final veneers. |
| 3rd Visit – Preparation of Teeth and Temporization | After your treatment plan has been approved, each tooth to be treated will be trimmed following the smile design parameters. This allows the teeth to be trimmed only the amount that is required to accommodate the composite or ceramic material. Teeth preparation guides will be digitally designed and made to guide the dentist during the prep to ensure that teeth will be trimmed as minimally as possible. The trimmed teeth will be scanned for the lab fabrication of ceramic or resin veneers. A temporary set of veneers will be bonded onto your prepped teeth while the scans are sent to the dental lab for fabrication of the veneers.Occasionally, the treatment plan could involveDirect hand-sculpted composite material of different shades and opacities directly onto your tooth surface to create the veneers, without involvement of the lab. |
| 4th Visit – Bonding of Ceramic or Resin Veneers | When the dental veneers have been delivered back to the dental clinic from the lab, you are now ready for your veneer bonding appointment. The temporary veneers are removed, the ceramic or resin veneers are inserted in the mouth and checked using photographs and high magnification. At this phase, minor adjustments to the final veneers can still be made. Should there be significant changes (color, length, shape) or fit issues noted at this stage, the veneers will be returned to the lab for corrections and a new set of temporary veneers will be made.If you and your dentist are happy with the veneers, the final ceramic veneers will be bonded to your teeth, and you'll be ready to show off your new smile to the world! For both composite and ceramic veneers, a review appointment is usually booked a week later for further polishing and refinement. Your dentist will usually prescribe a retainer for night time use to protect the veneers from chipping and to maintain the alignment of your teeth. |
Dental Veneers Treatment Duration
The average treatment duration for dental veneers is 3 to 4 visits over a period of approximately 3 weeks.

Why Should I Do My Dental Veneers with Elite Dental Group?
Elite Dental Group is a dental clinic that utilizes modern digital technologies and follows established safety measures during your dental veneer journey, with the aim of making each step minimally invasive.
Unlike non-licensed cosmetic stores that provide dental veneers, Elite Dental Group provides a safe and sanitary environment that prioritises your long-term oral health over just cosmetic appearances.
For patients looking to enhance the appearance of their smile, and when deemed appropriate after a detailed examination by a dentist, dental veneers may be considered as an alternative to other treatment options like orthodontics.
If your teeth are still unevenly coloured despite trying professional-grade teeth whitening, then dental veneers may be considered as an option for altering the appearance of your teeth. Veneers can also be used to adjust the size of undersized teeth, address minor misalignment, and modify tooth proportions.
Full sets of 8–10 veneers per arch are commonly used to create a uniform appearance. However, depending on the unique circumstances of each case, a fewer number of veneers may be sufficient to achieve the intended outcome.
We understand that many patients do not like their teeth trimmed aggressively, and we aim to take a minimally invasive approach to our dental treatment plans, with the aim of reducing the likelihood of complications.

Am I suitable for dental veneers?
You might be suitable for dental veneers if you meet the following requirements:
- Healthy gums
- Healthy teeth without dental decay or existing dental conditions
- Wish to correct teeth that are : discolored, cracked, chipped , misaligned slightly, or teeth that are of an incorrect shape or size
- Wish to have a complete smile transformation with a full set of veneers
- Have a stable and balanced bite
- If you do not have very severe and complex teeth crowding issues
Your dentist will assess your oral health and discuss your unique and customized aesthetic goals to determine if veneers are right for you. They will consider factors like tooth alignment, bite, and enamel condition.
If you grind your teeth or have severe misalignment, other treatments may be recommended first. The final decision depends on your specific dental situation and desired outcome.
What are the different types of dental veneers?
Dental veneers are a great option for those who want a smile makeover or to correct certain cosmetic flaws with their smile. In Singapore, there are two types of dental veneers available: porcelain/ceramic and composite resin. Your dentist will recommend the ideal veneer material for your needs based on your needs and budget.
Porcelain/Ceramic Dental Veneers
Porcelain/ceramic dental veneers are thin porcelain shells that are glued to the tooth’s front-facing surface. Each dental veneer is designed for the ideal tooth size, shape, and colour.
A full set of 8-10 veneers would create a complete and aesthetically pleasing smile makeover with the ideal smile curve, tooth shape and size and colour.
Porcelain/Ceramic dental veneers are:
- Stain-resistant
- More durable compared to composite resin veneers
- Can be removed with mild and gentle drilling
- Not easily repaired when damaged and must usually be replaced
- More costly than composite veneers
Composite Dental Veneers
Composite dental veneers are made of dental plastics (composite resin) and bonded to the tooth’s outer surface. Composite veneers, unlike porcelain veneers, could be hand sculpted by the dentist in one visit. However, due to the advances in modern technology, composite resin veneers can also be fabricated in the dental lab. The composite resin is applied to the tooth’s outer surface before it is cured, shaped, and polished.
Composite dental veneers are:
- More prone to staining and discoloration because of the nature of the material
- Not as durable as porcelain/ceramic dental veneers
- More easily repaired when damaged
- May be removed and replaced with minimal drilling
- Lasts about 2-5 years with proper care and maintenance
- Less costly than porcelain/ceramic dental veneers
What is the difference between composite veneers and porcelain veneers?
Composite veneers are made of resin that could be hand sculpted and applied directly to your teeth or lab fabricated, while porcelain veneers are solely custom-made in a lab and bonded to your teeth.
Composite veneers are less expensive and can be completed in one visit, but they are less durable and may stain over time.
Porcelain veneers are more expensive and require multiple visits, but they are stronger, last longer, and resist staining better. Porcelain also mimics natural tooth enamel more closely, providing a more realistic appearance.
Your dentist can help you choose the best option based on your needs and budget.
What is the difference between dental fillings and dental veneers?
Dental fillings repair cavities or damaged areas of teeth, while veneers cover the entire front surface of teeth to improve appearance, and in some instances to restore lost tooth structure.
Fillings are typically used to restore tooth function and prevent further decay. They are placed only in areas where the tooth is decayed .Fillings can be small or complex in size depending on the nature of the tooth defect.
Veneers, on the other hand, are aesthetic enhancements applied to the outer surface of teeth, like a thin laminate. They can address issues like discoloration, minor chips, or slight misalignment. Veneers are usually more extensive and costlier than fillings, but they provide a more comprehensive cosmetic improvement for multiple teeth.
What is the difference between doing orthodontic treatment like braces and clear aligners Vs dental veneers?
Orthodontic treatments like braces and clear aligners focus on correcting tooth alignment, tooth position and bite issues, while dental veneers primarily address aesthetic concerns, that cannot be solved by just repositioning teeth alone.
Orthodontics physically move your teeth into an ideal bite position over time, which can also improve both appearance and function. Veneers, however, do not move your teeth but instead cover their front surfaces to create the appearance of straighter, more uniform teeth.
Orthodontic treatment is typically more comprehensive and addresses underlying structural issues, while veneers offer a quicker cosmetic solution. Your dentist may recommend orthodontics before veneers in some cases to achieve optimal results.
Are dental veneers permanent?
Dental veneers are not permanent, but they are considered a long-term and durable cosmetic solution.
Once applied, veneers become a part of your teeth via strong adhesive bonding and can only be removed with gentle drilling. However, more underlying tooth structure could be removed in the removal process.. They typically last between 10 to 15 years with proper care, after which they may need to be replaced due to wear and tear.
The longevity of veneers depends on factors like your oral hygiene habits, diet, and whether you grind your teeth. While not permanent, veneers offer a durable and long-lasting way to enhance your smile.
How long do dental veneers last?
Porcelain veneers generally last longer than composite ones.
The longevity of your veneers depends on your oral hygiene practices, diet, and habits like teeth grinding. Having an imbalanced bite with bite forces that are distributed unevenly , could also have a negative impact on the longevity of veneers.
Avoiding habits that can damage veneers, such as biting hard objects or using your teeth as tools or points of leverage like a fulcrum, can help extend their lifespan. Regular dental check-ups, diligent mouthguard wear and proper maintenance care can also contribute to the longevity of your veneers. After this period, you may need to replace them due to wear and tear to regain the intended appearance and function.
Do I need to extract teeth or shave my teeth down for dental veneers?
For dental veneers, you most definitely do not need to extract teeth.
However, some tooth preparation is typically necessary. Your dentist will need to remove a small amount of enamel from the tooth surface to make room for the veneer. The amount of enamel removed is usually less than a millimeter or two. This process ensures that the veneers fit properly and look natural, without your teeth looking too thick and artificial.
In some select cases, ultra minimal-prep or no-prep veneers may be an option, requiring little to no enamel removal. The extent of tooth preparation depends on your specific case and the type of veneers you choose.
Why do I need healthy teeth and gums before proceeding with dental veneer treatment?
Healthy teeth and gums are essential before proceeding with dental veneer treatment for several reasons.
First, veneers require a strong foundation of healthy teeth, gums and bone to enable proper adhesion and fitting of the veneers and thus improving longevity . Existing dental issues like decay or gum disease can compromise the success of the treatment.
Second, untreated dental problems like hidden decay, may worsen under veneers, leading to more serious complications.
Third, the process of applying veneers involves some manipulation of your teeth, which could exacerbate existing problems if your oral health is poor.
Lastly, good oral health ensures that your natural teeth can support the veneers long-term, maximizing the longevity and effectiveness of your investment.
Who is a good candidate for dental veneers?
You might also be a suitable candidate if your teeth appear too small due to genetics or due to severe enamel wear.
Individuals with a stable and balanced bite and sufficient healthy enamel are also good candidates. You should have realistic expectations about the outcome and be committed to maintaining good oral hygiene.
However, those with severe and complex misalignment, significant dental decay, or gum disease would need to address and control these issues first before considering veneers. Your dentist can assess your specific situation to determine if you are a good candidate.
What is the difference between dental veneers done at a cosmetic store or beauty spa vs at a professional dental clinic?
The main difference between dental veneers done at a cosmetic store or beauty spa versus a dental clinic lies in the level of professional expertise, customization, and safety.
In some countries and jurisdictions (including in Singapore) it is illegal for a person who is not a qualified dentist to perform dental veneer treatment for patients, in establishments or premises that are not registered as a licensed dental clinic.
This constitutes the illegal practice of dentistry. It could take a long time for the Ministry of Health and the relevant law enforcement agencies to investigate such cases that would lead to prosecution, thereby allowing such illegal establishments to proliferate.
Beauty therapists or dental veneer “technicians” have the following disadvantages:
- Because they are not graduate dentists, they do not have the training or knowledge to examine or diagnose hidden dental diseases such as dental decay, gum disease or problems associated with an imbalanced bite.
- Because they perform dental veneer treatment on premises that are not licensed dental clinics, they are not subjected to strict safety and sterility standards expected of a healthcare institution. The tools, equipment and materials they use do not need to be HSA approved. Even if such premises appear to be clean, such premises are not governed by MOH , and therefore they are not subjected to any audit or inspection by MOH and can operate without any legal requirements to obtain any licenses whatsoever.
- They do not have access to Dental X-ray machines or other advanced diagnostic equipment to aid in the proper diagnosis of a patient’s condition,
- They do not have the knowledge or expertise to treat unexpected complications should they occur, after the veneers are placed.
- They are also unable to safely remove and redo veneers if complications arise.
- They may run afoul of the law for the illegal practice of dentistry if complaints against these establishments are made.
- They usually require patients to sign long disclaimer forms absolving them of any responsibility if complications arise, and if complications arise, they must be handled by a professional dentist. Some spas do not even have any consent forms at all!
- They do not use any advanced digital smile design software or tools to give patients a preview of the final result, thereby increasing the risk of unmet expectations or less than satisfactory results.
- Beauty spas or therapists can openly advertise dental veneers with discounts, promotions , before and after pictures and embark on aggressive marketing campaigns with social media influencers.. These campaigns could result in hyped-up unrealistic expectations and drive patients to consume veneer services that might not be in their best interests. Dental practices and dentists are bound by strict advertising rules and are not allowed to advertise in the same manner as beauty spas.
- Beauty spas often obtain their tools, materials and equipment from overseas suppliers or from online sources, as local professional dental supply companies are only allowed to supply goods to licensed dental clinics and dentists. Again this could mean problems with regulatory compliance and safety standards.
At a dental clinic, a qualified dentist examines and assesses your oral health, formulates a diagnosis and tailored treatment plan, prepares your teeth properly, and creates custom veneers to the highest standards of professionalism. They use high-quality materials and ensure proper fit and bite alignment.
Cosmetic stores often offer one-size-fits-all solutions applied by non-dental professionals, which may not address underlying dental issues or fit properly.
While potentially cheaper, store-bought veneers can lead to complications like decay, gum irritation, or an unnatural appearance. In contrast, veneers provided in a dental clinic are planned and fitted by a dentist, with the approach tailored to the patient’s individual needs.
Why are dental veneers more expensive when done with a dental clinic compared to a beauty spa?
Dental veneers done at a dental clinic are usually more expensive due to several factors.
Firstly, they tend to use materials such as porcelain, which can be costly. Second, the process involves the skills and training of dental professionals. Third, custom fabrication of veneers in a dental laboratory adds to the cost. Fourth, the procedure often requires multiple appointments, including consultations, tooth preparation, and fitting. Lastly, dental clinics may use digital or other specialised tools for measurements and fitting.
Whilst the technology, equipment, and materials can be costly, the fees also reflect factors such as the education and training of the dental surgeon, the support of dental staff, and the operational requirements of a licensed dental clinic, including regulatory compliance and safety measures that beauty spas are not required to meet.
What happens to the teeth under the dental veneers?
The teeth under dental veneers remain largely intact but undergo some changes. A small amount of enamel is typically removed to accommodate the veneer, which can make the tooth more sensitive to temperature changes.
The underlying tooth structure continues to be susceptible to decay, so good oral hygiene remains crucial. The tooth may also continue to change coor over time, which wont affect the veneer but could create a mismatch if the veneer needs replacement.
Despite these changes, the tooth remains alive and functional. Regular dental check-ups are important to monitor the health of the underlying teeth and ensure the longevity of your veneers.
Are dental veneers really worth it?
Whether dental veneers are worth it depends on your individual circumstances and goals. They can help improve the appearance of your smile, boosting your confidence and self-esteem.
Veneers are used to address cosmetic concerns such as discolouration, chips, or minor misalignment. With proper care, they may remain in place for an extended period. However, they are a significant financial investment and require some enamel removal, making them irreversible.
They will also most definitely need replacement eventually due to wear and tear. Consider your budget, oral health, and cosmetic goals carefully. Consult with a professional dentist to understand the pros and cons for your specific situation before deciding if veneers are worth it for you.
